There’s an amazing rescue dog in Rhode Island who’s done so many awesome things that she’s inspired a Netflix movie.
Ruby Australian Shepherd and Border Collie Mix was adopted by Cpl. Daniel O’Neil in 2011. He needed a search and rescue dog for the job. At the time, 8-month-old Ruby was adopted and returned to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter by five families. She was full of energy and needed her right person. It was then that O’Neil arrived and enrolled Ruby in a K9 training course where she graduated at the top of her class.
Ruby became the K9 dog for Rhode Island State Police where she participated in several search and rescue missions. One such mission, Ruby rescued a boy who had fallen into a ravine and passed out. That boy was the son of Patricia Inman, who was a shelter volunteer and dog trainer at the same time Ruby was referred to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter multiple times.
Between Ruby’s rescue missions and her extraordinary skills, she became so popular that she made national news and won awards. Now Ruby is highlighted in an upcoming Netflix movie called Saved by Ruby. The film is based on two biopics about Ruby’s life and will begin airing on March 17.
