New Church’s Taps CEO highlights craftsmanship with short film


MILAN- British shoe Specialized Church, part of Prada Group since 1999, has a new general manager, WWD learned.

Denni Manzatto, an experienced Prada who joined the company in 2013, was promoted to the top tier of the footwear brand. He succeeds Anthony Romano, who had been CEO of Church’s since 2017.

“He will lead the renowned Northampton brand towards a global growth strategy. Manzatto’s crucial professional experiences will help accelerate the international development and rebranding of the Church label,” the company said.

The executive joined the Prada Group in the commercial division and took on the role of commercial director for wholesale, eyewear and fragrance licensing, adding business development projects in 2019. He will continue to hold the position. same acting title, in addition to his new responsibility as CEO of the church.

The company has been fine-tuning its strategy for some time. Before the pandemic, he debuted a North American site and a showroom in New York aimed at strengthening its presence in the United States. The brand operates 62 stores worldwide.

The brand reiterates its craftsmanship since its founding in Northampton in 1873 via a video which will debut on its social media on Monday. He explores the process of creating his shoes, from the iconic Oxford and Derby styles to the brogue part of the Royal collection.

Director Aaron Christian trained his camera through nine of the 250 steps required to make a single pair of shoes in eight weeks. Focusing on the hands of the company’s craftsmen based in the Northampton factory, the clip is accompanied by a rhythmic poem written by English poet and musician James Messiah.

“Nowadays we have so many creative options ahead of us that to create something in the digital age, we ultimately need patience and time,” Christian said. “I think both of those things are essential to any craft, whether historical or more new age, like filmmaking, but we probably have less of both these days.”

Unveiling the film during Milan Fashion Week, the British shoe The firm is also launching its fall collection for men with the introduction of a stylish lace-up derby boot with a rubber sole.
