LEGO unveils its first set of avatars, taken from the original movie

For the first Avatar, merchandising remained surprisingly minimal. Despite the big name James Cameron attached, companies rarely take a chance on new and unproven properties in a big way. So we have Mattel toys, but not much else. Now that Avatar is a franchise, however, the companies go all-in for not only The way of the waterbut the first film retroactively too. Lego obtained the building toy license, and their first Avatar the set dates back to the climax of the first film. It’s Toruk Makto at the Soul Tree.

Featuring minifigs of Mo’at, Tsu’tey, Neytiri, and Avatar Jake, this set also gives us our first look at Na’vi minifigs. They appear to have regular torsos, elongated legs, and elongated heads compared to average. The Tree of Souls features poseable vines to wrap around the minifigures and includes an additional background diorama with “floating” mini-islands. Toruk has wings that can open up to 15 inches wide. Glow-in-the-dark pieces add a bioluminescent effect. The set also includes a newly cast Direhorse.

Pre-orders at the official LEGO store is $149.99. with delivery scheduled for October 1st. This is probably the date of the first waves of Avatar the merchandise will also strike.
