JU Independent Film Festival ends

Acclaimed filmmaker Kazi Hayat and the late legendary actor Humayun Faridi were honored at the closing ceremony of the 1st Jahangirnagar Independent Film Festival on Monday.

Kazi Hayat received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Humayun Faridi was awarded posthumously at the festival’s closing ceremony, held at the university’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium.

Jahangirnagar University Teacher Student Centre, Jahangirnagar Cine Society, Jahangirnagar Film Movement and Zahir Raihan Film Sangsad jointly organized the festival from June 10-13.

Bangladeshi director Giasuddin Selim presented the award to Kazi Hayat while economist Anu Muhammad received the posthumous award on behalf of Humayun Faridi at the event.

In addition, nine other awards were given in different categories, namely Best Choreographer, Best Sound Designer, Best Screenwriter and others.

An award named after the former Secretary General of Jahangirnagar Cine Society, the late Ranjit Das Chowhan, was given in the category titled Best Young Film Producer and another award named after film activist, the late Faysal Rahman Kishor, was awarded in the category titled Best Cinema.

Renowned filmmakers Nurul Alam Atique, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury and Proshoon Rahman served as judges for the film festival.
