The Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) – the South Oregon nonprofit event celebrating its 21st anniversary – has named Roberta Munroe as artistic director, Sky Loos as executive director and Kirkaldy Myers as the post. Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Munroe previously directed the programming of several leading global film events including Sundance, the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) New York. She has also produced more than 40 projects and directed six films.
“As a black lesbian in the world of film festivals, I have had the pleasure of working with several leading festivals in the mainstream and LGBTQI communities over the past 30 years,” Munroe said. “Community is very important to me both personally and professionally and it was an absolute pleasure to be adopted by the community of Ashland. The AIFF will continue to focus strongly on local talent and local audiences, while welcoming global communities of filmmakers. “
Ashland business owner and entrepreneur Sachta Card said of Munroe: “Her authenticity, experience and perspective will be invaluable assets to the festival and our community.
A longtime Ashland resident with close ties to the community, Loos is a seasoned nonprofit professional who previously served as Director of Operations at Britt Festivals and served as Director of Education and Community Outreach. at the Southern Oregon Humane Society.
Myers is the first black man to serve as the chairman of the board of directors of the AIFF. Independent artistic producer and XR digital collaborator, Myers has a vast network in the entertainment industry that he is ready to bring to the festival.
“This festival is able to stand out,” Myers said. “Roberta Munroe and Sky Loos are invaluable to AIFF. I am very excited about them as co-leaders and what they will do to secure the future of the Ashland Independent Film Festival.
