Amitabh Bachchan has struck ‘interesting deal’ with producers, film distributor says

Indian film actor Amitabh Bachchan’s latest film is TE3N, pronounced “theen” and means “three”. It’s a noir thriller and it’s an Indian film made for an international platform.

Against the backdrop of the labyrinthine alleys and alleys of Kolkata, it also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vidya Balan. The creative producer is Sujoy Ghosh and the soundtrack is composed by Clinton Cerejo.

The story centers on Amitabh Bachchan’s character, John Biswas. His granddaughter, Angela, was kidnapped and killed eight years earlier, an incident that traumatized him and left him relentlessly seeking justice.

He continues to visit the local police station on a daily basis, where he is rejected and ignored. Biswas also regularly visits the place where Angela was killed.

The grandfather comes across a clue of the mystery in a busy market and enlists the help of Father Martin, a former police officer turned priest, who was working on the case at the time. He was also permanently affected by the murder.

The clue turns out to be a red herring, but another murder occurs under similar circumstances to Angela’s.

Martin is invited to join the case by a policeman on duty because of his own police background.

While these two work on the murder, Biswas gathers evidence and approaches Angela’s kidnapper.

The parallel investigations culminate in an emotional climax.

Reliance Entertainment is the film’s distributor, and the company’s COO, Shibasish Sarkar, answered a few questions for me ahead of the film’s release.

Rani Singh: How long did it take you for Amitabh Bachchan to agree to participate in the film?

Shibasish Sarkar: The director of the film, Ribhu Dasgupta, told the story to Mr. Bachchan. According to Bachchan, this was one of his quickest decisions on a screenplay. He immediately accepted to play this powerful role.

Singh: What is the business deal you have with Amitabh Bachchan and how much has it been paid for?

Sarkar: Mr. Bachchan and the producers have structured an interesting deal to keep the cost of production reasonable. So as part of the structure, instead of an initial license fee, the pay television rights were assigned to Mr. Bachchan.

Singh: Who made up the team?

Sarkar: The team was formed by director Ribhu Dasgupta and creative producer Sujoy Ghosh.

Singh: How much did the production of the film cost?

Sarkar: The film cost around $ 3 million, excluding Mr. Bachchan’s fees and printing and advertising costs.

Singh: Why has Reliance created a cinema division and how is it managed?

Sarkar: Reliance Entertainment was established 10 years ago, for the production and distribution of films. The distribution team consists of nearly 50 executives with offices in 10 cities in India, as well as the US and UK globally.

Singh: Is Bollywood Market Sentiment Driving You to Increase or Decrease Your Distribution?

Sarkar: Reliance Entertainment is an active distributor of films worldwide. In 2015-16, 39 films were distributed by the Reliance team in domestic and overseas markets. So definitely the goal is to increase the distribution of quality movies from different banners in the future.

Singh: Why are Indian films now being released simultaneously inside and outside India?

Sarkar: Indian films are now released simultaneously in India and around the world in all traditional markets. This is the only way to save the film in foreign markets from the threat of piracy.

Singh: What are your box office expectations?

Sarkar: TE3N is expected to have an activity of at least 10 to 12 million dollars worldwide.

Singh: What are your expectations in terms of the number of audiences?

Sarkar: We expect between six and seven million spectators around the world.

Singh: In which countries do you go out?

Sarkar: The film will be released in around 20 to 25 countries for first sale in traditional territories. It will be released in all major traditional countries like USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, all Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Mauritius , South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Germany, etc. depending on the interest, the film will open on non-traditional markets …. In cinematographic and non-cinematographic formats.

Endemol Shine India, Reliance Entertainment, Blue water films in association with Photos of Sujoy Ghosh, Cinemaa and Kross Pictures Production are the main players in the team behind TE3N. The release date is June 10, 2016.
